This Sepak Takraw
is hand-woven from rattan stems. Sepak is a Malay word and Takraw, a Thai word; they all mean a similar thing.
We believe that Sepak Takraw has been played in Thailand (formerly known as “Siam”) at least over a century ago. Originally, the ball was made of rattan. But now, it is made of plastic to promote its popularity worldwide.
In a tournament play like SEA Games, they use plastic balls. However, our shop still carry the traditional balls made of rattan and we can actually use these rattan balls to play.
Besides offering the rattan balls, we also supply the plastic Takraw balls as also displayed. These plastic balls are accepted as the official Takraw balls for tournament plays. For the plastic one, we require a minimum order quantity; please see below.
Two people or more can play with one ball by kicking it in circle without dropping it. Once the ball is dropped to the ground, the game restarts over again. The feet, foreheads, back of elbows, knees, shoulders, can all be used while playing. The competition can also be arranged for three on each side against each other just like a volley ball. The game is kind of like a combination of volleyball, soccer and gymnastics.
If you can play hacky sack, you can definitely play this ball to start with.
Sepak Takraw tournament has also been listed as one of the sports in the Asian Games. As such, we anticipate that it will be one of the most exciting and fantastic tournaments in the Olympics Games in the future years to come.
